DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Despite the surge of Dengue cases across the country, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-XI said it is proud that it recorded no cases throughout the 11 city, municipality, and district jails in the region.
“As of date, we boast (of) a zero-Dengue incident,” said Helen Rose Saragena, chief of BJMP-Davao’s Community Relations and Welfare and Development.
The Department of Health (DOH) recently declared a national Dengue epidemic after 146,062 cases were recorded from January to July 20, this year. There were 622 recorded deaths nationwide.
“The BJMP strongly supports the DOH with their advocacy against Dengue. Despite the high congestion rate of our jails, we closely monitor their surroundings to ensure a Dengue-free environment,” Saragena said.
Based from BJMP-XI data, as of August 8, the jail population is at 4,992.
“We actively implement DOH’s 4S strategy against Dengue,” Saragena said, following orders of BJMP head Chief Superintendent Allan Iral.
They are also implementing the Sabayang 4-O’clock Habit para Deng-Get Out, which the DOH recently launched. It focuses on “Search and Destroy” of probable mosquito breeding sites.
The 4S stands for “Search and Destroy” mosquito-breeding sites; practice “Self-Protection Measures” such as wearing of long pants and long-sleeves shirts, and daily use of mosquito repellent; “Seek Early Consultation;” and “Support Fogging/Spraying” only in hotspot areas. (davaotoday.com)
