DAVAO CITY – More sanitary inspectors and nurses will be hired to monitor commercial food here.

Following the issue of alleged ‘poisonous’ durian candy which downed almost 2,000 people in Caraga region, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday said that he wants to hire 20 nurses on Thursday.

“Modugang ko og sanitary inspectors. And maybe if I have the money, I would need about 20 nurses [I will add sanitary inspectors. And maybe if I have the money, I would need 20 nurses],” Duterte said.

The sanitary inspectors will go around the city’s three congressional districts to monitor and check food establishments.

The mayor asked the vendors to cooperate and allow the inspectors to check their businesses.

“Kung dili ninyo pasudlon ang mga sanitary inspectors, I will cancel your permit so dili mo makatinda. Kung nagtinda mo nga walay permit, ipadakop tamo sa pulis [If you will not allow the sanitary inspectors to enter, I will cancel your permit and you will not be allowed to sell. If you continue to operate without permit, I will tell the police to apprehend you],” he said.

Last July 27, the city government conducted a food safety training here which was attended by more than 3,000 vendors.

IDs will be distributed to those who have attended the free seminar. (davaotoday.com)
