DAVAO CITY, Philippines — A hospital for physically deformed child patients here has accepted two children from conflict-affected province of Basilan province.

Vincent Bitana, development and sustainability officer of Tebow Cure Hospital said the two children—aged 7 and 11 —were admitted in the hospital for treatment.

He said that both of the children’s hands were amputated and their bodies were burned.

“We transported them from Basilan to Davao and did the operation, we cleaned up the parts that are amputated and gave them prosthetics,” he said.

Bitana said that after the operation, the children are now recovering. He said the two children from conflict-affected areas in the country are part of the focus of the Tebow Cure Hospital, a hospital funded by Cure International, a Christian nonprofit organization based in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania.

Cure’s efforts are focused on providing medical care to children suffering primarily from orthopedic and neurological conditions. It has 10 hospitals across the globe with one here in Davao City.

An estimate of 700 to 800 surgeries have been conducted already since the hospital’s operation started as most of the patients age ranges from 1 year old to 18 years old, he said.

Bitana said the hospital caters patients coming from Mindanao, but also welcomes patients from Luzon and Visayas.

He said they already served patients from General Santos City, Cotabato, Davao Region, Manila, Oriental Mindoro and some other parts in Mindanao.

Meanwhile, on Nov. 22 to 26, an event dubbed as “Kanlungan ni Hiraya” will showcase the art of the digital era, while featuring traditional masterpieces.

The gallery of artwork can be found at 5th floor of the hospital located in Bajada, Davao City. Sales from the artwork will be donated to the hospital.

The vision of “Kanlungan ni Hiraya” is to contribute to the cultural and economic development of the Davao City and Mindanao.

It also aims to support the mission of Cure Philippines, Inc. A culmination event will happen on Dec. 1 to 8 starting 10 a.m to 8 p.m at Abreeza Ayala Mall and  on Dec.  12 to 14, at SM Ecoland. (davaotoday.com)
