DAVAO CITY, Philippines – A proposed revamp of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) will pave way for the public to easily avail health care services in the country, Health Secretary Paulyn Jean Ubial said on Wednesday, August 30.

The proposal, which comes in form of a Senate bill, will also rename PhilHealth into Philippine Health Security Commission, said Ubial.

Ubial stressed that the new commission is aimed to reduce the burden of patients or their family in finding sources of funds to pay for hospital bills and other medical services.

The commission, she explained, shall manage all the funds from other health-related security agencies intended for health care, thus a “one-stop shop” for the public.

“When we say health security all funds for health whether it’s Department of Social Welfare and Development, Philippine Amusement Gaming Corporation, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, PhilHealth, Department of Health will be managed by Philippine Health Security Commission so that all needs will be provided,” Ubial said.

Ubial added that through the proposed law, duplication and spreading of resources will be avoided. (davaotoday.com)
