DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Two big countries in Asia have now signified their interest in putting up an industrial park in the City as confirmed by the Chairman of the Committee of International Relations of the City Council.

Councilor Javier Campos, head of the City Council’s Committee confirms that both the countries of Japan and China were interested to develop an industrial park in the City. However, the neophyte councilor said there are no details yet as the City officials are still in talks with both countries.

Campos also clarifies that the City is still to study the plans of both countries.

“I don’t think it’s been done, so we’ll definitely need to study. On our end I don’t know if we have to provide land from the City or what, but we do have to find a way to make our City more appealing to investors,” he added.

Davao City has recently eyed another sisterhood with the Municipality of Chongqing, one of the four municipalities of the People’s Republic of China.

In his recent visit to the Sangguniang Panlungsod, Consul General Li Lin of the People’s Republic of China mentioned that The Chinese government is interested in future collaboration of a Davao-China Industrial Park.

“We will do what we can to assist the mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Davao,” said Lin in his privilege speech in the 19th Council.

This Tuesday, August 20, Consul General Yoshiaki Miwa of Japan’s Consulate General Office in Davao emphasized Japan’s interest in economic development cooperation focused on company-to-company business pairing strategies between Japanese and Davao-based companies and the possibility of building a future Japanese Industrial Park.

Consul Miwa in his visit to the 19th Council last August 20 mentioned “the need to enhance their Japanese relations between Davao and the rest of Mindanao” after putting up an independent consulate office in the city.

Japan has been giving aid to the Philippine government for various infrastructure and non-infrastructure development projects under different administration.

In Davao City, Japan has been the prime sponsor of the 28.80-kilometer Davao City Bypass Road Project that will improve transport logistics and mitigate congestion of the main streets of the city and the P2.5 Billion Waste-to-Energy project. (davaotoday.com)
