New bins, compactors to be delivered in October

Jun. 04, 2015

DAVAO CITY – The chief of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) said that the new garbage bins and compactors to be procured by the city are expected to be delivered this October.

Engr. Elisa Madrazo, Cenro chief, said that they are just waiting for update from the General Services Office (GSO).

“We are expecting that the delivery might be before the fourth quarter. So maybe before October,” Madrazo said.

She said that right now they are on the planning stage on how to deploy these bins to avoid their improper handling, such as in the case of some residents who use them privately at home.

“Instead of using it as garbage bins, it will be used at home as water containers,” she said.

“We have observed before the deployment of garbage bins, even though there are conditions with the barangay captains there are still some who don’t comply,” she said.

Madrazo said that they have operational manual for proper usage of garbage bins. She also said that barangay captains are accountable for the garbage bins deployed in their area.

Madrazo added that the barangay captains can be fined for lost or damaged bins.

The city has allocated P600 million for the purchase and acquisition of 22 units of garbage compactors and 13,000 garbage bins.

Some 1,800 bins will be reserved and used only for special events such as Kadayawan and Araw ng Dabaw. (davaotoday.com)
