DAVAO CITY— Customs Commissioner Alberto D. Lina ordered the immediate disposal of the two container vans presently held in safekeeping at Mindanao Container Terminal Subport in Cagayan de Oro city, on Monday, February 29.

Among the container vans that Lina wanted to dispose are the two shipments believed to contain forfeited goods worth P11 million, following a routine inspection at the Cagayan de Oro’s port warehouse at the sideline of the agency’s 40th founding anniversary celebration.

Lina said that two shipments which were consigned to Spherebox Marketing contained fireworks worth P1.5 million and rice worth P2 million. The shipments from China arrived at the port on two separate dates: October 5 and 13 last year, he said.

He said that the first shipment was declared as “general merchandise consisting of tissue paper, rubber mat, floor mat and toys while the other shipment was declared as housewares and foot wear.”

On July 2, 2015, another shipment containing sodium cyanide was seized due to lack of necessary permit. With an estimated value of P2 million, the shipment originated from South Korea and was consigned to Central Combal Mining Supply Corp, according to Lina.

The agency has seized another shipment from Korea consigned to R2H Trading due to irregularities. Lina said the consignee declared the shipment to contain “used replacement truck parts but showed truck body, doors, and used chassis with an estimated value of P3 million.”

In addition, a separate shipment of mosquito coils from China estimated to be worth P1.5 million was also seized by the agency due to lack of permit.

In a statement on Monday, February 29, Lina vowed that the bureau “will expedite processes for disposal, auction or submissions of settlement motions for these apprehensions.”

Meanwhile, the Customs chief has lauded the leadership and employees of the ports of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City for their accomplishments and contributions to the Bureau.

“I am happy that outports like CDO and Iligan are challenging themselves to be an example to other ports,” he said. (davaotoday.com)
