DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The country’s biggest gathering of players in the construction industry brought multinational brands aimed at gearing up Mindanao’s boom in the said subsector.

The 4-day Philconstruct event was officially opened here Friday, September 8, with a total of 89 brands and companies filling the 118 booths at SM Lanang Premiere’s convention center.

“Through these events, the biggest variety of up-to-date construction materials are brought here in Mindanao,” said Ramon Allado, Philconstruct Mindanao Event chair.

Previously, Patrick-Lawrence Tan, chief executive officer of Philconstruct organizer Global-Link MP Events International, said that with the growing big-ticket projects in the south, the construction boom here will bring people back to Mindanao.

Construction is currently the country’s leading industry subsector in terms of the amount of workers it employs, based on data from the Philippine Statistics Authority.

Through the event, Tan hopes that contractors here will find partnerships with brands who have come here to offer “innovative” ways in executing development projects that could be done in a faster pace, thus improving their efficiency in terms of doing business.

One of these brands include Swedish automotive manufacturer Scania, who has formed partnership with BJ Mercantile Inc., the company’s distributor in the Philippines.

Philconstruct is renowned for organizing annual trade events that gather global products and services in the construction industry.

Allado said the number of this year’s exhibitors surpassed 2016’s figures.

Present in the opening ceremony were officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Tourism, local government unit, and the Consular Office of Japan in this city. (davaotoday.com)
