DAVAO CITY – Land Transportation Office regional director Atty. Gomer Dy revealed that a “no registration, no travel policy” will be strictly implemented this year.

Dy said the central office of the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) said “vehicles without plate numbers are not allowed to run around the city.”

“The new plate design has a barcode making it easy to identify traffic violators,” Dy said in a press conference Monday.

LTO assistant director Macario “Bong” Gonzaga said the policy was supposedly implemented last year, “but the central office in Manila lacks plates.”

Dy cited the priorities of LTO XI this year including registration of vehicles and law enforcement.

On November 2013, Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte signed Executive Order No. 39 that set the speed limits for all vehicles within Davao City.

Dy said the number of vehicles in the region increased by “6 to 7 percent” last year.

“We are planning to add enforcers to cater to the increase of vehicles,” Dy said.

Meanwhile, motorcycle owner Jerome Tutor, 24-year old, agrees with the new policy saying this will help in solving crimes including those “riding in tandem”.

Pabor ko ana kay para madakpan tong trending karon na mga riding in tandem nga kriminal ug mga carnapped na mga vehicle,” Tutor said.

Tutor also said the move will lessen the traffic congestion in the city.

“Dapat sab na siya aron makuhaan ang trapik og mga walay plaka nga nagdagan sa kadalanan,” he said.

LTO XI also urged motorists to get their new plates before the implementation of the policy.

“They are only given 1 month to get their plates before we implement the new policy,” Dy said.(davaotoday.com)
