Francis Morales, environmental activist and advocate of sustainable agriculture, died Wednesday 11pm evening, November 12, due to acute lymphocytic leukemia.

Morales’ last engagement was the establishment of the Daluyong National Network of Disaster Survivors in Tacloban city last week.

The sudden death came as a shock to his colleagues. Earlier last month, he suffered from pneumonia, but he strived to keep well and prepared for the Yolanda first year anniversary.

Morales spent a lifetime in various causes, starting with the anti-dictatorship movement during Martial Law; as executive director and board member of the national group for sustainable agriculture Masipag; and later as executive director of the disaster rebuilding network Balsa Mindanao.

He is survived by wife Nena Morales and daughter Humeira. He was 63.
