DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) warned of possible flashfloods and landslides in the next 24 hours in Mindanao areas as Tropical Depression “Dante” intensifies.

In its 5 PM bulletin Saturday, Pagasa said the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao and Caraga, as well as Mimaropa (Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) and Visayas, will experience cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms, “which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.”

It noted that as of 4 PM today, the center of “Dante’” was estimated at 730 Kilometers Northeast of Casiguran in Aurora.  It has a maximum sustained winds of 55 Kph near the center and is expected to move Northeast at 11 Kph.

Pagasa said “Dante” is far to directly affect any part of the country.  But it will enhance the Southwest windflow that will bring rains and thunderstorms.  No public storm warning signals have been raised.

Earlier at 10 AM, “Dante” was estimated at 740 Km East of Casiguran with maximum winds of 45 Kph near the center.  It’s expected at 920 Km East Northeast of Aparri, Cagayan by Sunday morning.

The rest of the country, Pagasa said, will experience light to moderate rains and/or thunderstorms.  (davaotoday.com)
