DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) is set to build a new satellite breeding facility in a 23-hectare donated land in Compostela Valley province.

Dennis Salvador, PEF executive director said the new facility will provide a secluded breeding area not only for the Philippine Eagle, but for other endangered raptors as well.

“Given current threats to captive populations such as disease outbreaks and natural calamities, this new asset will help address our plans to secure and isolate breeding populations,” Salvador said in a statement on Thursday, October 26.

The 23-hectare parcel in Monkayo town in CompVal province was recently donated by the Yap family from Iloilo City.

The Yap family was inspired to donate their property to the eagle center after watching a documentary about the Philippine Eagle’s current state and fight for survival and the people from the city who have devoted their lives in protecting the national bird.

“We are truly grateful to the Yap family for this generous donation,” Salvador said.

In June this year, PEF partnered with the Landbank of the Philippines to start the P700,000-repair of the Philippine eagle duplex enclosure at the PEF conservation breeding facility in Malagos here.

Salvador said the land donation is “always a welcome development” for the foundation and their efforts in raptor conservation. (davaotoday.com)
