DAVAO CITY – The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) advised the public to take precautionary measures as heavy rains brought by the inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ) affects Mindanao Monday, May 23.

As of its 1:25 pm Thunderstorm Advisory, Pag-asa said thunderstorms are affecting portions of Davao del Norte, Davao City, Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, Bukidnon, Surigao del Sur, North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Maguindanao and Zamboanga del Norte.

Pag-asa also cautioned the public of possible strong wind, lightning, flashfloods and landslides.

Cloudy skies with rains in most parts of the country are also expected as the tail of a cold front prevails over northern Luzon.

Visayas and the Regions of Northern Mindanao, CARAGA, Bicol, Mimaropa, Calabarzon, Ilocos and the provinces of Cagayan, Batanes and Aurora will also experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms.

The weather bureau added that partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

Light to moderate winds blowing from the south will prevail over Luzon and coming from the southeast to south over Visayas and Mindanao.

Meanwhile, PAGASA weather forecaster Obet Badrina said “there are no weather disturbances seen near the Philippine Area of Responsibility within the next three days that may develop into tropical cyclone.”

PAGASA has also not issued a gale warning as fisherfolk is safe to venture into the sea. (davaotoday.com)
