CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – Four persons were found to be violating the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) gun ban during the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) election period, the city police office has reported Tuesday, the day after the local polls was held on Monday.

The Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) said four persons were arrested after they were caught in possession of firearms while nine individuals were apprehended for violating the liquor ban.

“Cocpo will be evaluating our efforts to improve our performance in the next election to give better service compared to this election. All recommendations that will be helpful to the next election will be sent to proper authority for appropriate action,” it said.

Also, elements composed of the police and the military raided the houses of Pantar, Lanao del Norte mayor Jabar Tago on Sunday, May 13.

Those who conducted the raid were soldiers from the 1st Scout Ranger Battalion and the 4th Mechanized Battalion from the Phil. Army’s 1st Infantry Division.

The military said the raiding team swooped in on Tago’s residences in barangays Punod and Sundiga Punod, leading to the brief encounter between government troops and an armed group.

Soldiers retrieved various firearms following the clash, including a Barret sniper rifle, two M16 rifles, an M79 grenade launcher, three M14 rifles, six .45 caliber pistols and live ammunition.

Along with Tago, six other personalities were arrested by authorities in the raid. They will be charged for violating the election gun ban. (davaotoday.com)
