DAVAO CITY – The first tropical depression for this year is expected to make landfall in Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley and Caraga region by Saturday. It will also bring heavy rains to Yolanda-affected Eastern Visayas.
Forecast from PAGASA said the low pressure area spotted near Eastern Samar has developed into Tropical Depression ‘Agaton’ would be at 80 kilometers north of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur or 75 km East of Butuan City by Saturday afternoon. By Sunday afternoon, it will be at 50 km Southeast of Malaybalay, Bukidnon or 75 km Northwest of Davao City and at 130 km West of General Santos City by Monday afternoon.
Storm signal 1 is hoisted in Surigao del Norte including Siargao, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Province, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valleyand Southern Leyte, with winds carrying spped of 30 to 60 km per hour with moderate to heavy rainfall of 5 to 15 milimeters per hour within the 300 km diameter of the storm.
PAGASA also said Agaton will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over Eastern Visayas and Central Visayas, areas hit by Typhoon Yolanda.
The provincial government units of Davao del Norte, Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental have convened its Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council to assess and prepare for “Agaton”.
