DAVAO CITY – The Junior Chamber International (JCI) Philippines launched this year’s search for The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) in the country.
During the commencement of TOYM last March 25 in Manila, it unveiled this year’s theme, “Building our Nation for Global Competitiveness.”
JCI aims to highlight the Filipino’s potential for influence and success in the global arena.
“TOYM seeks to recognize the selfless dedication of young men and women in their field of endeavor,” said Frances Puyod, Area 5 Commissioner Nominations for TOYM.
TOYM Awards was initiated by the Manila Jaycees as a chapter project on April 6, 1959. Since it started, 463 people have already been honored with this prestigious award.
JCI is a non-profit international non-governmental organization of young people between 18 to 40 years old. It encourages young leaders to be responsible and participate in projects which will benefit the community.
“JCI is a movement which we pride ourselves being the training ground for future leaders in the society. So with this, the TOYM in partnership with Gerry Roxas Foundation and PLDT, we pay recognition to youth leaders in our society who excel in their respective fields,” said Larry Cruz, JCI Philippines-Regional Vice President.
Cruz also said that he wanted to see more youth from Mindanao creating positive impact and change to the society.
Some of TOYM Awardees from Mindanao include Former House Speaker Prospero Nograles, Joey Ayala, Manny Pacquiao and the most recent is Migs Dominguez.
Young Filipino men and women between 18 to 40 years old are qualified to be nominated. Self-nomination is also allowed.
“They actually have to make a bid form and send it to JCI Philippines. The deadline for nomination is August 31,” Puyod said.
Awarding will be held in Malacañang December this year. Awardees will be given recognition symbolized by a trophy made by national artist Napoleon Abueva. Awardees will also be grouped among “Who’s Who in the Philippines.”
“Even if they (awardees) don’t receive a cash prize, what’s very nice about TOYM in receiving the award is that, apart from getting the trophy, the advocacies of the nominees will be put to limelight,” Puyod added.(davaotoday.com)
