Nov. 04, 2015

DAVAO CITY— The city has started commemorating the National Children’s Month today highlighting the call to minimize all forms of abuse against children.

The Children ‘s Month is originally celebrated in October which is amended by Republic Act 10661 to commemorate the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on November 20, 1989.

The Republic Act also “seeks to instill its significance in the Filipino consciousness”.

In a Philippine Information Agency dispatch, Marilou Bermudo, head of the City Social Welfare and Development Office said this year’s theme is “Komunidad at Pamahalaan, Magkaisa, Pag-abuso sa Bata Wakasan Na,” which was preceded with a fun walk participated by children from various barangays in the city.

Bermudo said the whole month of November is National Children’s Month and a children’s congress will be held on November 28 and 29 to discuss the issues on child abuse.

She said all barangays in the city will be represented by two children each and. Bermudo said the issues presented will be given to Mayor Rodrigo Duterte in form of resolution.

Bermudo said the citywide congress will also bring  the opportunity of reviewing the resolutions made last year, especially the ones already acted upon by the concerned agencies.

“We should face the fact that despite the advocacies, and policies for children, they still confront psychological abuse, emotional abuse and bullying,” she said.  (davaotoday.com)
