DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking in Davao Region launched on Friday morning a mural painting dubbed as “First Brush” for the campaign against human trafficking.

At least 38 artists coming from various schools, private companies and government agencies attended the simple ceremony held at the Southern Philippines Medical Center at JP Laurel Avenue here.

Mural artists painted the wall outside of the SPMC to show and raise public awareness of the agency’s anti-human trafficking campaign.

Regional Prosecutor Janet Grace Fabrero said the activity aims to involve the community to acknowledge that human trafficking must be stopped.

“We wanted to enhance more the observance by seeing to it that the community is invovled,” she said.

Fabrero said they chose the walls of SPMC-IPBM since it can easily be seen by the public.
“The most important thing is to send a strong message by way of depicting it in a place that people can see.”

Through the mural painting, Fabrero said it will help educate the public on how to deal the issues of human trafficking.

“We chose the positive approach so that people can see the positive side of dealing on trafficking in person,” Fabrero said, in reference to the mural painting.

“You will not see negative images like blood and more on how you depict children living in a healthy atmosphere, free from violence and trafficking,” she said.

Fabrero said the public will be able to see an estimate of 38 mural paintings during the unveiling on December 12.

Meanwhile, Councilor Abigail Dalodo-Ortiz, chairperson of women, children and family relations who spoke in behalf Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, has encouraged the public to take a stand against human trafficking.

“We in the City government remain committed to empower Dabawenyos and protect them from all forms of abuse,” Ortiz said. (davaotoday.com)
