Suspect of Ampatuan Massacre in hiding for 10 years arrested

CAGAYAN DE ORO, Philippines – Operatives from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-10 (CIDG-10) has located and arrested one of the suspects to the Ampatuan Massacre in a town in Misamis Oriental on Friday.

The CIDG-10 said they arrested a certain Nasser Adam, who now goes by the name Umar Kasim, in Barangay Mohon, municipality of Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.

CIDG-10 said Adam, 45, married, was working as a security guard using that alias for one of the companies located near his present residence.

Adam has a standing warrant of arrest for murder issued by Judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes, of Regional Trial Court Branch 221 in Quezon City dated July 21, 2010. The suspect’s case was docketed under criminal case Q-10-163766, with no bail recommended.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government has offered a reward of P300,000 for the capture of Adam.

Reports said Adam is a relative of the Ampatuan clan in Maguindanao, whom at least eight of its principal members have been already been convicted by Solis-Reyes on Dec. 19, 2019, for the murder of 58 people, 32 of whom are media workers in Barangay Salman, Ampatuan town in Maguindanao on November 23, 2009.

Lt. Col. Napoleon Carpio, CIDG-10 deputy chief, said Adam has been in hiding since authorities began arresting those involved in the massacre more than a decade ago. CIDG-10 said there are still dozens of the massacre suspects that are wanted by the law.(davaotoday.com)
