DAVAO CITY, Philippines – At least 50 Moro households in a coastal area in Purok Linggisan, Sta. Cruz town in Davao del Sur will now benefit from a communal water system recently installed by the local government in the area in collaboration with the Therma South, Inc. of AboitizPower.

Most of the residents in Purok Linggisan derive their daily source of income from fishing.

In a statement on Tuesday, July 4, TSI said the project is part of the company’s continued commitment to uphold quality health and sanitation among the residents of its neighboring communities.

The project sourced out a natural spring from the area of Binugao in Toril, Davao City which is near the said fishing community, TSI said.

“Before the water system has been put in place, residents get water from the springs located in distance from their community,” TSI said.

Water pipes were installed connected from the main reservoir constructed that allowed clean water to flow into three tubs that will be utilized by residents in the area.

“We would like to thank TSI and the local government for their initiative in helping us access clean, potable water. This really is a big help for the community,” said Inda Sumatra, purok leader of Linggisan in the same statement.

Another community leader, Jalil Hasan emphasized of improved health condition of residents as the project now brings potable water in the heart of their community.

Sta. Cruz town in Davao del Sur and the areas of Binugao and Inawayan in Toril host the 300-megawatt TSI coal-fired power plant that currently supplies power to the Mindanao grid.

The construction of the reservoir and the installation of pipes are among the community projects that TSI undertake as part of its corporate social responsibility.(davaotoday.com)
