Communist Party hits gov’t for ‘overly militarizing’ Papal visit

Jan. 14, 2015

The Communist Party of the Philippines hits the government’s security measures for the Pope’s five-day visit in the country saying it attempts “to prevent many people, especially the downtrodden, from seeking Pope Francis’ support.”

Around 40,000 soldiers and police are being deployed to protect the pope’s present.

Armed Forces chief Lieutenant General Gregorio Catapang Jr described the event as “the biggest security nightmare” of the government.

The CPP has earlier declared a five-day ceasefire effective from 12:01 am of 15 January to 11:59 pm of 19 January 2015.
