Davao City – Four elementary schools in Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) will benefit from a nationwide feeding program organized by a private group which is celebrating its centennial anniversary on January 21.

About 300 pupils from Cogon Elementary School, Sta. Cruz Elementary School, Dadatan Elementary School and Linusutan Elementary School, all in Talicud Island, are beneficiaries of the Balay ni San Jose Feeding Program to be held this January 15 in celebration of the 100th year of the global organization Kiwanis International.

“This is not only a 1-time feeding program but this is a 3 to 6 month feeding program,” said Allan Sira, district governor of Kiwanis International.

The feeding program will be done simultaneously with other Kiwanis chapters in Visayas and Mindanao.

The pupils of the schools from Talicud Island identified are an additional to about 15000 children in the whole Davao Region who will be catered by the feeding program. Other school beneficiaries include 13 schools from Bunawan, Davao City, 3 schools from Davao del Sur and 20 schools from General Santos City.

Kiwanis International, a non-profit organization, was behind the fight against iodine-deficiency among children in the Philippines along with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) when it produced the iodized salt “Fidel” during the term of Pres. Fidel V. Ramos. (With reports from Roberto Gumba, Jr, Davao Today Intern)
