DAVAO CITY, Philippines — A European global brand in manufacturing commercial vehicles is eyeing Davao City as its center for operations in Mindanao.

Vic Marinduque, sales in-charge for Visayas and Mindanao of BJ Mercantile Inc., the local distributor of Scania in the Philippines, said the progress in Davao City is luring them to put up a workshop that will service their clients in Mindanao.

Marinduque said they see the boom in infrastructure activity in Davao as an opportunity to come to Mindanao.

Scania is a Swedish brand operating in 100 countries.

Although there is no timeline yet on when they would be establishing their workshop in Davao, Marinduque assured the city is their next stop for market expansion.

Peachy Tamayo, marketing manager for Scania said they wanted to offer their services in key cities in Cebu and Mindanao. She said the mining industry in Mindanao is also targeted by the Scania as a market.

“Mining is really here, we wanted to go into that type of industry,” she said.

The global brand boasts of its Fleet Management System which allows customers to monitor and track in real-time the performance of their vehicles.

The FMS enables the company to monitor report on fuel consumption, vehicle and driver evaluation, vehicle tracking, and carbon dioxide emission report among others.

Scania Philippines opened its showroom in Edsa last February 2015 and has expanded to Cebu in June. Marinduque said they currently have 60 units of Scania trucks used in freights in Visayas and Luzon.

Scania is among the participating brands at the 8th Philconstruct Mindanao held at the SMX Convention Center in SM Lanang here from Sept. 8 to Sept. 10. (davaotoday.com)
