For two nights, the stage play The Vagina Monologues in Visayan translation tickled and touched the audience at the RSM Event Center at the Philppine Women’s College of Davao.

Eight actresses performed in six monologues of different characters recounting experiences of sexuality and womanhood, and their scenes were interspersed with interpretitive dances as poems were read by women rights advocates.

The monologues include a married woman played by Loisa Batac, a spinster alternately performed by Shiela Marie Chio-Pacilan  and Reena Veloso, a woman with a unique sexual relationship played by Florie May Tacang, a sex worker performed by Lea Morales, a woman coming to terns with her sexuality alternately played by Joefel Soco-Carreon and Bea Dehino, and a survivor in a rape camp played by Hochi Benitez.

The Vagina Monologues in Visayan was directed by theatre performer Bejay Absin with the script translated by activist and award-winning playwright, writer Don Pagusara. The play was produced by Women Studies and Resources Center with proceeds to be given to Balsa Mindanao’s rehabilitation project in communities affected by Typhoons Pablo and Agaton.
