DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Students, professionals, church leaders, and various people’s organizations marched in the city’s major thoroughfares Friday to urge President Rodrigo Duterte to resume talks with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines.

Before the program started, large sheets of tarpaulins show the message “PEACE TALK IPADAYON (Resume Peace Talks)” spread down at the building facade of the Ateneo de Davao University along Roxas Avenue as a symbolic participation of the university to join the calls for peace.

Friday’s unity walk was led by several religious groups, namely: the United Church of Christ of the Philippines, Iglesia Filipina Independiente, Sisters Association in Mindanao, Exodus for Justice and Peace, respectively.

Majority of the participants are students and faculty members from the Ateneo de Davao University, Assumption College of Davao, University of Immaculate Concepcion, University of Mindanao, and University of the Philippines Mindanao.

Participants brought their creative hand fans and placards containing their call to free education, ending the government’s all-out war, and to resume peace talks. (davaotoday.com)
