DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) on Monday, October 16, directed all its units to prevent a possible attack from terrorist groups following the death of Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon and Maute group leader Omar Maute.

The two were killed in a military operation in Marawi City on October 15.

In a statement, Eastmincom Commander Lt. Gen. Rey Leonardo Guerrero said there could be a possible “reprisal from Maute-Isis sympathetic groups.”

He said the troops were ordered to intensify security operations in their area, including the territorial waters, during the gathering of Commanders and Staff of subordinate units for the 3rd Quarter 2017 Campaign Progress Review and Assessment at Headquarters Eastern Mindanao Command.

On September 15, the military operationalized an Inter-Agency Border Security Coordinating Council in Region XI following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at the Naval Station Felix Apolinario in Panacan, here. (davaotoday.com)
