DAVAO CITY (Updated 9:10pm) —A bomb went off Tuesday night near a convenience store in Barangay Poblacion, Pikit town, North Cotabato, killing two ‘bombers’ who were allegedly carrying explosives while onboard a motorcycle, a military spokesperson said.

In a text message sent to DavaoToday Tuesday, Captain Joan Petinglay, spokesperson of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division said that “two unidentified personnel were dead on the spot, who were riding one Bajaj motorcycle. Allegedly said persons were carrying explosives.”

The bombers identified as Jomar Palaguyan and Asrap Muhamad were dead on the spot as an improvised explosive device (IED) went off prematurely while a civilian in person of Ma. Florin Hira, 36, a resident of Brgy.Kalawag was reportedly hurt.

The news about the said explosion was also circulated in social networking website through a Facebook account under the name of the (sic) Municipality of M’lang, North Cotabato, Philippines.

“A bomb exploded a few minutes ago at Pikit town! Very good because the bomb prematurely exploded & killed the 2 bombers. Gaba!,” the post read.

As of press time, authorities are conducting an investigation and local government officials have not yet issued a statement.

The explosion came in two days after 64 members of the Philippine National Police were killed in a deadly “misencounter” with the Moro rebels in Mamapasano town in Maguindanao last January 25. (davaotoday.com)
