DAVAO CITY, Philippines — A different “Pasko Fiesta” for the indigenous peoples will be held this coming holiday season as the city decided to bring various Christmas activities to their respective areas.

Ma. Luisa T. Bermudo, head of the City Social Services and Development Office, announced Thursday that several activities will be conducted at Paquibato, Baguio and Marilog district, respectively.

These activities are product display, medical health service, tribal games, beauty fair, magic show, and “Kasalan ng Bayan” (mass wedding) to be held on December 8 and 12.

“But everyday, there will be a highlight activity which will be determined by the different tribal chieftains for a specific area,” she said.

Bermudo added that Lumad who opted to visit the city proper will be housed in several gymnasiums in the following areas, namely:  Tugbok District, Matina Aplaya, Barangay 5-A, Barangay Duterte, Bunawan, Buhangin and the Calinan Riverside.

She, however, encouraged the Lumad to stay in their respective communities citing security and safety concerns.

She added that they would receive assistance and hygiene kits from the city government all through-out the duration of their stay.

On Dec.10, Bermudo said, a health care day will be conducted in the identified shelter areas. “For 15 days, the City Health Office will be operating on the health booth inside the shelter areas.” (davaotoday.com)
