Davao City adopts third sisterhood agreement with Chinese municipality

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The city government is now in its third sisterhood agreement with the People’s Republic of China for possible potential areas of cooperation.

In a privilege speech, Councilor Augusto Javier G. Campos III, Chairman of the Committee on International Relations said that his committee had a diplomatic meeting with Consul General Li Lin of the People’s Republic of China in the Consulate General Office in Davao to discuss future developments.

The neophyte legislator said that while the sisterhood agreement with Chongqing Municipality and the City Government of Davao is now in process, a China-Davao Industrial Park is one of the future areas of collaboration.

Chongqing is a major city, and municipality in southwest China. In 2018, Chongqing’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reach RMB 2.04 Trillion Chinese Yuan (15 Trillion in Philippine Peso).

“Among the topics discussed were potential areas of cooperation in the field of trade and commerce, education, arts and culture, agriculture and health,” Campos stated in his speech on Tuesday’s regular session.

The meeting said Campos was scheduled in order for his representation “to be apprised of the recent functions, programs and activities of the Consulate General of China in Davao”.

In just 10 months after the installation of the Consulate General Office in Davao, Consol General Li Lin said China and Davao have already had successful partnership agreements. Earlier Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio sent a communication asking the People’s Republic of China to allow Davao City export tropical fruits and aqua-culture products.

Lin also expressed his gratitude for the active cooperation between China and the City of Davao.

“We will do what we can to assist the mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Davao. We see a promise of higher income and a wider choice of tropical fruits and aquaculture products for Chinese consumers,” Lin added.

Meanwhile, Davao City has already entered two sisterhood agreement with Jinjiang City and Nanning City of China that aims to establish cooperation in the fields of education, science and technology, tourism and culture, trade and commerce, and health and wellness. (davaotoday.com)
