DAVAO CITY — Local government employees here will be enjoying an early Christmas treat from outgoing City Mayor and President-elect, Rodrigo Duterte, who promised P10,000 educational assistance for those with plantilla (regular) positions.

“The plantilla will receive P10,ooo educational assistance,” he told the government employees as he bid farewell during the flag ceremony held on Monday, June 27.

Contract of service workers, auxiliary employees, members of the Davao City Police and Task Force Davao will also receive incentive.

Duterte also apologized to the employees here who cannot go near him anymore due to stricter security.

“Usahay mauwaw ko, usahay maikog ko, usahay maluoy ko kaninyo mga katawhan.I know nga gusto mong makiglamano, himamat or even just a short talk, nahibaw ko ana kay inyo gud kong mayor for the last 22 years, going 23 (Sometimes I feel ashamed, sometimes abashed, sometimes I feel pity for you. I know that you want to shake hands with me, approach me, or even just have a short talk with me, I know that because I served as your mayor for the last 22 years, going 23),” Duterte said.

He said the Presidential Security Group, whose mission is to protect the President and his immediate family, has told him that he cannot supersede the law which mandated them to protect the President.

“Unang-una dili mo makaduol dayon nako kay barahon mo. Kay nagtuo man ni sila dayon nga inyo kong patyon. Di pud ko kaduol kay pugngan ko (First you cannot just approach me because you will be blocked by security because they think you will kill me. I cannot just approach you also because they will stop me),” he said.

He also thanked the employees for supporting him since 1988, when he ran as mayor.

“I was first elected in 1988, I never lost an election and I owe it to you,” Duterte said. (davaotoday.com)
