DAVAO CITY, Philippines — A high-ranking police official here said there was an assessment by the Police Regional Office 11 to terminate the police chief of Paquibato district here after failing to report any illegal drug operation in their area.

But Davao City Police Office chief Senior Superintendent Michael John Dubria defended Paquibato police official, Chief Inspector Jerome De Guzman and said the case of Paquibato was “exceptional”.

“Paquibato has not submitted or registered any presence of illegal drugs, but in spite of that they processed about 220 surrenderees that are former drug users and so far all the rest of the police stations are doing good,” he said.

Dubria said that he defended the station commander after the PRO panel deliberated on the performance of all station commanders here.

“The PRO recommended for the relief of station commanders for the lowest performing station, but I justified and defended the station commander and they realized that Paquibato is an exceptional case and instead they suggested that we clear Paquibato,” he said.

He said that they will make Paquibato’s zero report as an accomplishment.

“Instead of being the lowest performing or non-performing, we will change it to nothing to perform in Paquibato in terms of illegal drugs,” Dubria told reporters Wednesday.

Dubria said that De Guzman was the newly-installed station commander after the New People’s Army captured Police Chief Inspector Leonardo V. Tarungoy last April 16, 2016.

Dubria said all the 12 police stations are still focused in the anti-illegal drug operations despite the recent night market bombing here last September 2.

Meanwhile, the Compostela Valley Provincial Police Office(CVPPO) is also intensifying the anti-illegal drug campaign. Sr. Supt. Armando De Leon, CVPPO chief said that as of now, a total of 11,659 illegal drugs users and pushers have surrendered.

De Leon said that 99 percent was already accomplished out of 729 individuals in the watch list. (davaotoday.com)
