DAVAO CITY, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte’s message for the Lenten Season is for the public to aid the less fortunate people.

Drawing inspiration from the benevolence of Jesus Christ, Duterte on Monday, April 10 said Christ’s life shows “selfless service and humility.”

“May the virtues of kindness and benevolence that Christ exemplified serve as our inspiration to aid in the plight of our less fortunate fellowmen,” he said.

The death of Jesus Christ “marks the ultimate demonstration of love in laying down one’s life for the salvation of mankind, he said.

“Let the story of crucifixion challenge us to remain persevering in our struggle for a better life and a stronger society,” he added.

Duterte said amidst the differences of denomination, the Filipinos should always choose to embody compassion as how Christ personified. (davaotoday.com)
