DAVAO CITY, Philippines— Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said on Saturday that Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s speech for his second State of the Nation Address will be longer and more meaningful.

Andanar, in a radio interview over DZMM Teleradyo, said the public should expect a longer speech because the President is expected to cite some major accomplishments under his term.

“Expect that the SONA of course will be a little bit longer. Last year, we don’t have accomplishment because the President had just assumed the office. But now, we have many accomplishments and many benefitted from the projects of the President,” Andanar said.

Andanar also said that Duterte’s speech will be meaningful, unlike the more “technical” SONA last year.

“Let’s expect that this will be meaningful Sona because it is not technical, unlike the last Sona which was so technical. This time, the projects that the beneficiaries felt will be mentioned in the Sona,” he said.

This year’s Sona speech of the President will be anchored on the theme “comfortable life for all,” according to Andanar.

“Ang comfortable life for all, sa ilalim nito ay prosperity for all, law and order at peace [The comfortable life for all, under this is prosperity for all, law and order and peace],” he said.

When asked if Duterte will be introducing new policies, Andanar said that he has no idea, but it is possible that the chief executive will announce new policies.

“Kilala natin si Presidente, he is full of surprises and at the same time, kapag very passionate siya sa isang idea, biglang magaadlib yan si Pangulo. Maganda yan kasi it only means he is very passionate about a certain topic or a certain issue,” he said.

“The president does not want to be preempted of what he will say, just expect a meaningful SONA, expect an exciting one,” Andanar added. (davaotoday.com)
