Former soldier killed in anti-drug operation in ComVal

DAVAO CITY, Philippines—A former member of the Philippine Army was killed in an anti-drug in Compostela Valley Province on Tuesday, October 3.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 11 said the suspect, 42-year old Jeffrey Montefolca, was killed in the exchange of gunfire when operatives attempted to serve him the search warrant around midnight in Barangay Poblacion in Nabunturan town.

The PDEA claimed Montefolca pulled a .38 revolver and exchanged gunfire with the authorities.

Montefolca was reportedly rushed to Nabunturan Doctor’s Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

The operation was carried out around 12:10 am by the combined elements from the region’s PDEA, Nabunturan police, the Compostela Valley province Provincial Public Safety Command and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.

The police said they recovered six sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu” in two big plastic sachets, a medium sachet and three small sachets weighing more than 15 grams with an estimate price of P180,000. They also seized assorted drug paraphernalia and the .38 revolver allegedly used by the suspect.

Meanwhile, authorities also arrested Montefolca’s live-in partner Nolaizah Lumiguez who is now in custody of the PDEA 11 for investigation.(davaotoday.com)
