Gov’t is going digital with land titles

Sep. 10, 2018

Davao City, Philippines – The Land Registration Authority (LRA) on Monday has encouraged landowners to have their land titles “digitalized” for easier processing of their documents.

Amelia Respicio-Samarita, records officer 2 of Registry of Deeds, said that digitalized titles would allow landowners to have their documents “accessible, electronically-preserved, and backed-up securely for future reference.”

Requesting for Certified True Copy of digitalized titles would be faster, and landowners could also now request for it through any Registry of Deeds, she added.

Landowners could still process the digitization of their land titles until the September 30 deadline by the LRA. According to LRA, the deadline would complete the digitization of all manually issued Certificates of Title in the agency’s database records.

In Davao City alone, close to 500 thousand manually issued titles are yet to be converted to electronic-titles (e-titles).

LRA is one of the government agencies that shifted to digitization.

The agency said that its Data Conversion Activity is one of the major components of the Land Titling Computerization Project, which was implemented to modernize the operations of the LRA Central Office and the Registries of Deeds to further protect and secure the Torrens System of Registration.

Landowners may pay more or less 700 pesos for their titles to be converted.(davaotoday.com)
