It’s official: Duterte, Robredo win in 2016 polls

DAVAO CITY – Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo won as President and Vice President after the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) finished canvassing the 167 Certificate of Canvass (COCs) at around 7:17 pm on Friday, May 27.

Duterte garnered 16,601,997 votes, while Robredo won with 14,418,817 votes. Her closest rival, Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., got 14,155,344 votes.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said the voter turnout was a record at 81 percent.

Peter Laviña, head of  Duterte’s media group said Duterte’s win “may be anti climactic, but we should not lose its historic significance.”

“His victory is the triumph of the people, by the people and for the people,” Laviña said in a statement.

The two chambers of Congress will release a final resolution declaring the winners of the presidential elections and the proclamation of winners next week. (
