Kidawapan journo seeks elective post in 2019 polls

Oct. 15, 2018

DAVAO CITY , Philippines — A broadcast journalist based in Kidapawan City has filed her certificate of candidacy on Monday in a bid to seek an elective post in the coming 2019 elections.

“I have decided to tread this path because God has a purpose for me. A deeper purpose, perhaps. Every decision I make, God is always there as my guide,” Malu Cadelina Manar said on Monday.

Manar is program director of the Catholic-owned Notre Dame Broadcasting Corp.

She filed her COC today running as city councilor with Kidapawan City Mayor Joseph A. Evangelista under the Nacionalista Party bannering the campaign slogan “One Team, One Goal, One City.”

When asked why did she leave the field of journalism, Manar said she can serve the people more if she is working in the government by way of enacting laws meant to improve the lives of Kidapawan residents.

“I have decided to leave the field of journalism which I embraced and became part of my life for 28 years because I believe I can serve the people — not through the microphone but a pen to draft and pass legislations that will help improve the lives of the community I would be serving if given the chance to get a post at the Sanggunian,” the 49-year old veteran journalist said in an interview.

If elected, Manar’s top priority would be passing local ordinances that would empower women, aid the city’s out of school youth and street children, and institute major reforms for Kidapawan’s agricultural sector.

“I intend also to pass legislation that will protect farmers from abusive traders. Legislations that will institutionalize structures and programs for abused and exploited women These are only few. I hope to realize these plans in three years,” she added.(davaotoday.com)
