DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Davao del Norte governor Anthony Del Rosario condemned the killing of former Samal village official Paulito Villaceran Jr. and his security aide Johnny Caro last Sunday, November 25.

“The Provincial Government of Davao del Norte is denouncing in the strongest terms the killing of former Barangay Captain Paulito Villaceran, Jr. of Sion, Kaputian, Island Garden City of Samal and his security aide Johnny Caro Sunday night,” Del Rosario said in a statement Wednesday.

Villaceran and Caro were declared dead on arrival at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) in Davao City Sunday night.

The former village official of Barangay Sion in Samal’s Kaputian district was gunning for seat as a city councilor under Del Rosario’s political slate Hugpong ng Pagbabago.

“We send our deepest condolences to the bereaved families, as we pray for the speedy recovery of Villaceran’s wife and three others, who were wounded in the senseless attack,” Del Rosario said

Del Rosario has called for an in-depth probe as he expressed hope that “is not politically-motivated and tied to the synchronized national and local elections next year.”

“We are calling for an in-depth investigation and the speedy arrest of the perpetrators. I ask the law enforcement agencies to harden the security of our communities. At the same time, I urge our people to be vigilant and help thwart similar incidents from happening again,” he said. (davaotoday.com)
