DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The beneficiaries of the city’s 840 unit housing project will be selected through a lottery, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said Monday, May 22.

In a statement, Duterte-Carpio said the idea was suggested by his father, President Rodrigo Duterte to avoid “suspicion of favoritism.”

The younger Duterte said the project is “a step forward in attaining the city’s vision of gainful employment, decent housing, educational opportunities, and healthy living for all Dabawenyos.”

Located in Barangay Los Amigos, the Biyaya ng Pagbabago Housing Project is a multisectoral project between the city government, National Housing Authority, Pilipinong May Puso Foundation, and San Miguel Corporation.

The mayor, together with President Duterte, San Miguel Corp., President Ramon Ang and other officials led the project’s groundbreaking ceremony on May 19.

“Aside from giving our constituents a safe and decent place to live, this venture will also give the beneficiaries access to educational and livelihood programs” the mayor said during the ceremony.

NHA reportedly set aside a total of P 24 million, while San Miguel contributed P1 billion for the project.

Expected to finish in 2018, the housing project will include 860 housing units, 68 social lots, and two social lots. (With reports from Robby Joy D. Salveron/davaotoday.com)
