Mayor Sara Duterte to focus on poverty, health, education

DAVAO CITY — Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte will prioritize poverty, health and education in her term of office
​and ​urged department heads to draft their budget for next year anchored on her 10 priorities.

In a message transmitted through her ​c​hief of ​s​taff, lawyer Raul Nadela Jr, and acting City Administrator Dwight Domingo, Duterte ​said ​the departments should “create projects that significantly contribute” to the agenda that she has set.

Duterte’s 10 priorities are poverty alleviation, infrastructure development, solid waste management, health, education, agriculture, tourism, transportation planning and traffic management, peace and order, and disaster risk reduction and mitigation.

“My vision is simple,” the mayor said. “I want our constituents to have gainful employment, decent housing, educated and healthy children, able to eat three meals a day, and to be safe and secured in their daily activities.”

Department heads were also told to make sure “that the people of Davao City will experience meaningful and sustainable change and development” under her administration.

“You are empowered to do whatever you want to improve productivity and you are accountable for your team’s output,” she said.

The city government department heads were also named last week. Among them are Lawrence Bantiding, assistant city administrator for operations; Maribeth Lumactod, City Economic Enterprise; Vingelin Bajan, City Accountant’s Office; Leo Brian Leuterio, City Agriculturist Office; Engr. Jaime Adalin, City Assessors Office; Ermelinda Furog, City Budget Office; Leo Anthony Braceros, Civil Registrar; Julius Adrian Oxales, city cooperative and development office; Joseph Dominic Felizarta, city building official; and Carmelita Bangayan of the General Services Office.

Dr. Josephine Villafuerte will still head the City Health Office, Erwin Alparaque the Human Resource Management Office, Atty. Osmundo Villanueva, City Legal Office, and Lorna Mandin for the Integrated Gender and Development Office.

Head of the Davao City Investment Promotion Center, Ivan Cortez will also lead the City Planning and Development Office. Meanwhile, Emmanuel Jaldon will head three offices Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Public Safety and Security Command Center and the Central 911.

The City Tourism Office will be headed by Regina Rosa Tecson, Marissa Torentera for the Business Bureau, Bella Linda Tanjili for the City Treasurer’s Office; Grace Nabong for the City Correspondence and Records Division; Jefry Tupas for the Public Information Office; and Michael Aportadera for the City Sports Office.(davaotoday.com)
