DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio encourage the youth to learn from the country’s history, as she delivered her message during the 77th Commemoration of the Araw ng Kagitingan on Tuesday, April 9 at the Veterans Memorial Monument in Ponciano-Roxas Streets in Davao City.

City Administrator Zuleika Lopez delivered Mayor Sara’s message during the occasion.

In her message, the mayor told the youth to look back at history but not with resentment, pity or misery “for wounds” from the dark times.

“Take good lessons from both the past and present times in building a safe, secure, peaceful, and peaceful progressive nation,” she emphasized

Mayor Sara also reminded the public that it is the responsibility of every Dabawenyos to take charge of achieving lasting peace in the city.

“It is not (the) sole responsibility of our uniformed personnel but of all of us Dabawenyos. This I say because, in every plan that we lay out, in every dream that we hold on to, freedom and peace is demanded its realization,” the mayor added.

Aside from recognizing the contribution and valor of Filipino veterans to the country’s history, the mayor also looked back to the acts of valor by those who “rendered in the battle lines of Mamasapano and Marawi City.”

“We are reminded how our fight for freedom and peace can also be challenged within our very homeland,” said Mayor Sara. (davaotoday.com)
