Bishop Hosts Caraga Conference for Peace and Development

TAGO, Surigao del Sur — Bishop Jose de Dios Pueblos of Butuan City hosted the 3-day CARAGA Conference for Peace and Development (CCPD) Strategic Planning-Workshop at the Bishops Home in Ampayon, Butuan City last March 07, 2007. This was participated in by Colonel Jose B Vizcarra (JSC) PA, 401st Infantry Brigade Commander, Colonel Dante, 402nd Infantry Brigade Commander and LTC Joel N Madarang (GSC) PA, the Commanding Officer of 36th Infantry Battalion, as well as PNP and other battalion commanders of the 4ID in CARAGA.

Actually, this conference is a multi-sectoral forum composed of the Church, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine National Police, NGOs and Peoples Organization within Caraga Region. The conference is aimed at promoting the culture of peace essential to the improvement of lives of the populace in CARAGA.

To achieve this end, the CCPD will provide the venue to discuss and resolve issues and concerns among stakeholder-member in cultivating the values of morality, nationalism, democracy and solidarity through an effective partnership; organize various stakeholders that advocate and promote the values of morality, nationalism, democracy, solidarity, ecology and social concerns; empower the stakeholder-member through pro-active participation in its various programs and activities; and to mobilize human materials resources to support its various programs.

The workshop aims to come up with a coordinated program and development that seeks to define the role of the CCPD and the coordination and feedback mechanism among the various groups in order for them to get a consolidated overview of the movement of the programs on peace and development and in identified focus areas, and map out initiatives on how to strengthen and enhance the convergence partnership among the stakeholders.

As expected, the output of the stakeholders centered on the formulation of a realistic strategic plan that will guide the operations of the CCPD; define the role of CCPD in the identified hotspots during the May 2007 elections; and set the schedule to conduct information campaign on election-related and conflict resolution management.

It was also highlighted by the birthday celebration of Bishop Pueblos on March 08, 2007 where he hosted a very sumptuous and well-attended dinner. (4th ID)
