DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Police Regional Office 11 (Davao region) clarified that the process of transmission of reports to the Philippine National Police (PNP) national office is the main reason why they end up as the worst region at solving riding-in-tandem shootings.
Base on the Philippine National Police (PNP) data, only six cases of 74 riding-in-tandem killings recorded have been solved or cleared by the regional office. From October 11, 2017, to May 21, 2018, Davao police efficiency rate on crime solution is only 8.11% for riding-in-tandem cases, the lowest out of all regions even under Martial Law.
But Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz, the PRO-11 spokesperson, said the data is about to be updated since there are some technological and other problems in the transmission of reports between the two offices. Driz cited the problem of inactive submission of reports from the regional office that resulted from the poor ranking of PRO XI.
“Our problem is the delay in the submission of our own Unit Crime Periodic Report. The technology hampers us to report and if there is a delay, the program will not receive it,” said Driz
Driz said that regional police does not only focus on cases concerning riding-in-tandem. The crime solution efficiency said Driz “does not only limit on motorcycle riding suspects” since they validate reports on the ground. She added that the PRO XI is also looking into anti-criminality campaigns such as arrest on wanted persons, resolving murder and homicide cases.
“We are 3rd in Crime Solution Efficiency rating and 6th in Crime Clearance Efficiency from January to April this year,” said Driz
Compared last year, Driz said,”in the advent of the oversight committee of police operations especially during the assessment and evaluation of the eight focus crimes perpetrated by motor riding suspect covering the period of January 1 up to May, we recorded a decreasing number of crimes.”
PRO XI recorded 148 cases in January to May 2017 while only 82 cases on the same period in 2018 of motor riding suspects related to all crimes reported. (davaotoday.com)
