Parojinog siblings brought to Manila for inquest proceedings, detention

OZAMIZ CITY, Philippines – Vice Mayor Nova Parojinog and his brother Reynaldo, Jr. aka Dodo were brought to Manila, 7:00 am today, to be turned over to the Regional Trial Court Branch 89 of Quezon City, court who issued the search warrants.

“Kung unsa nga korte ang nag-isyu sa warrant, didto pud i-turn over ang subject. Ang korte na dayun mag-determine kung asa sila i-detain (We turn over the arrested person to the court which issued the warrant. It also determines to where they would be detained),” explained Police Superintendent Lemuel Gonda, spokesperson of PNP Region 10.

In an interview with Sophia Parojinog, the daughter of the Vice Mayor, she said
​s​he do​es ​n​o​t want her mother and uncle to be detained somewhere because they feared to be killed.

The Parojinog siblings were arrested in a simultaneous raid, dawn of July 30, by the joint team of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Region 10, Misamis Occidental Provincial Police Office and the Ozamis City Police Office.

These are for the alleged violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. The Parojinogs were​ believed to be in the illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and explosives.

Authorities served six search warrants for the vice mayor, his brother Dodo, their father Mayor Reynaldo Sr. and wif​e Susan, the mayor’s brother Misamis Occidental Provincial Board Member Ricardo aka Ardot and three others – his live-in partner, who is also a provincial board member Mina Luansing, Frances Parojinog and Jeffrey Gabisan.

Two search warrants​ that were ​simultaneously served named the mayor and his wife at their residence in Barangay San Roque, and at their farm in B​a​rang​a​y Cogon and another two for Ricardo, Luansing, Frances and Gabisan for their areas in barangays Bagacay and Kinuman Norte.

Each search warrant for the vice mayor and Reynaldo Jr. were served at their houses in San Roque and Santa Cruz, respectively.

Another brother of the Mayor, Octavios, was not included in the search warrant but was among those killed.

In a press briefing, Sunday afternoon, Police Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido presented to the media the firearms, ammunitions and explosives like hand grenades, that the authorities allegedly recovered from the houses they searched into.

Fifteen were killed in the said operation, including Mayor Reynaldo and wife Susan, when a fire fight occured.

Other 14 persons were also arrested while they are inside the houses subject of the search warrant. They are in the custody of Ozamiz City Police Office.(davaotoday.com)
