DAVAO CITY— A pregnant woman who was among the injured in the Davao bombing died Monday, evening.

The City Information Office (CIO) reported that the six months pregnant Vicenta Depalubos Asperin, 21 died at the Metro Davao Medical and Research Center (MDMRC) at around 10:27 PM Monday, September 12.

The CIO said the medical report showed Asperin died due to “heart failure and brain damage”.

Asperin was one of the severely injured victim in the Roxas night market blast. “A splinter entered her nose and went straight to her brain.” the CIO said.

Asperin’s brother Gregorio Depalubos, who was also quoted by the CIO, said she was declared brain-dead by her attending physician a few minutes before her last breath.

“The doctors declared her brain-dead and she expired just after a few minutes,” Depalubos said.

Depalubos recalled that before his sister went into a coma, his sister didn’t know that a bomb has exploded.

“Before she was brought to the hospital, she even asked what has happened to her. And she fell into a coma after,” he told the CIO.

According to CSSDO chief Ma. Luisa Bermudo, Asperin’s unborn baby which suppose to be her first baby girl also died but authorities said this should be counted as one.

“Based on the notes from the Local Civil Registrar, the counting should be one because the unborn baby remained inside the mother’s womb. They were not separated,” CIO quoted Bermudo.

CIO reported that Asperin was the massage therapist of another victim, Daniel Larrida, 12, who died on the spot.

The blast claimed the lives of at least 15, and wounded 69 others. Ten casualties died on the spot. (davaotoday.com)
