DAVAO CITY,Philippines – Supporters of presidential candidate Leni Robredo and her running mate Kiko Pangilinan launched caravans in Duterte’s stronghold in Mindanao to kick off the first day of the national electoral campaign.
The supporters who call themselves “Kakampinks” to symbolize Robredo’s official campaign color that is pink, launched nationwide caravans along with local political groups manifesting a nationwide organized campaign to win the May 2022 elections.
In General Santos City, the local political party Achievement with Integrity Movement (AIM) led a caravan early morning ahead of the opening campaign of rival presidential candidate Manny Pacquiao, a native of the city.
The rally was led by AIM founder, the former Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Chairperson Lumalhati Antonino. Antonino family is a known ally of the Noynoy Aquino administration.
The Gensan caravan started early in the morning from the main highway of Barangay Calumpang down to Pendatun street to the city’s oval plaza.
In Central Mindanao, Kakampinks supporters kick off the caravan at the popular Pink Mosque of Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao to Notre Dame of Midsayap College in Midsayap, North Cotabato.
Organizers estimated more than 100 private vehicles and more than 50 motorcycle owners participated in today’s campaign caravan in the Moro concentrated area showing organized support for the Leni-Kiko tandem.
Kakampinks from Cotabato City also joined the caravan with 40 motorcycles and more than 10 private vehicles converging with fellow Kakampinks in Datu Saudi Ampatuan.
There were also caravans held in Digos City in Davao del Sur and Butuan City in Caraga region.
Robredo, the current vice president, is leading the opposition to the Duterte alliance with presidential aspirant Bongbong Marcos Jr.
Meanwhile, supporters of Leni-Kiko in Davao City will have a separate caravan on Wednesday morning, February 9 organized by the Davao for Leni Movement. (firstname.lastname@example.org)
