DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Prior to the kick-off of the slated campaign for senators and party-list groups, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has already filed a leave of absence to campaign for political hopefuls she publicly claimed to support, the Mayor bared on Monday.

The Commission on Election (Comelec) has slated the campaign for senators and party-list groups on February 12, 2019, to May 11, 2019 while campaign period for members of the House of Representatives and regional, provincial, city, and municipal officials will start March 30, 2019 to May 11, 2019.

“I already filed my leave. Only the two of us filed for a leave of absence for the campaign” Duterte-Carpio told the media on Monday, adding that she will be out to campaign poll senatorial candidates.

Shen then reminded all city government employees to review the election laws to avoid any violations.

This comes after she disclosed that another personnel from the city hall, whom she did not name, has already filed a leave of absence.

The local chief executive, however, clarified that the two personnel who will be assisting her did not file for a leave of absence because they are not engaged in partisan politics while other individuals who will help her during the campaign are all volunteers.

During the election, all government employees are prohibited to solicit votes and other related activities like holding an assembly or rally for a certain candidate or group and are also not allowed to be identified with candidates or political parties or distribute letters, wear shirts, pins, caps, or other similar paraphernalia.
