TAGUM CITY— Tagum City Mayor Allan Rellon on Monday warned druglords in the city to leave or face jailtime.

This developed after police authorities here have identified another drug den.

“It is confirmed that there’s a drug trade in Barangay Magugpo West. I am announcing this so that the people involved in illegal drug trade will leave the city or else they will be sent behind bars,” warned Rellon in an interview.

For his part, Tagum Police Chief PSUPT Solomon de Castilla, said “we hope the public will not engage in the illegal trade of drugs because this is one way they can participate in our efforts and campaign.”

A pedicab driver who requested anonymity told DavaoToday on Sunday revealed that illegal drug trade is a thriving business among pedicab drivers.

“Some pedicab drivers are involved in drug trade. I can confirm that because they invited me to buy and use illegal drugs,” he said.

He added the price of each small pack of “shabu” ranges from P200 to P300.

“The drug trade usually happens at wee hours when police authorities don’t conduct their usual monitoring in their area of responsibility,” the pedicab driver said.

Earlier on October, in an exclusive interview with DavaoToday former Tagum Mayor Rey Uy categorically said that “Tagum is now a shabu hub because of the overwhelming presence of drug addicts in the city.”

Uy said that drug trade in Tagum were operated by groups believed to be “remnants” who have intensified their recruitment to attract new members. (Mart D. Sambalud/davaotoday.com).
