Davao City, Philippines — US ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim commiserated with the families, survivors, and the victims of the Roxas night market bombing during his visit at the blast site here Wednesday afternoon.

City Administrator Zuleika T. Lopez said Kim’s visit in Davao City  was his first trip outside Metro Manila. The ambassador also paid a courtesy visit to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

Lopez accompanied the US ambassador at the Davao blast ground zero, saying that Kim wanted to enhance the PHL-US relations.

Prior to the visit, Lopez said Kim together with his team already talked with American Chamber of Commerce here in the city.

“They met already so when it comes to investments, they already discussed the details,” she said.

The City administrator further explained that Sung Kim was tasked by US President-elect Donald Trump to be hands on in Asia because of its resources.

“The human resources are here, even the natural resources, so hopefully this is the next growth area if we are not there yet,” she said.

Lopez shared that the US ambassador together with his team will be flying back to Manila tonight, Wednesday, Dec. 14.

For her part, Duterte, in a statement, said her meeting with Kim was cordial and “an opportunity for us to renew our friendly relationship and ties with the United States government and the American people.”

The local chief executive said that she is also grateful to the expression of the US ambassador on his support for the city’s fight against terrorism.

The Roxas night market blast killed 15 persons and wounded 69 others last September 2.  (davaotoday.com)
