DAVAO CITY- A local survey in the city shows that some of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s constituents are not willing to share his leadership style with the rest of the country.

The survey which was initiated by the Institute of Popular Opinion (IPO) of the University of Mindanao was conducted last October 6 to 17. The survey which has 5% margin of error and 95% confidence interval has chosen 1,200 respondents.

According to the survey, 7 in 10 Dabawenyos will vote for Duterte should he run as President in 2016. Duterte got 66% of the votes while top presidentiables lagged behind including Vice President Jejomar Binay got 7.7%. Senator Grace Poe got 5.9 percent, Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas got 1.3 % and Senator Miriam Santiago got 0.8%.

79 percent of the respondents cited Duterte’s good leadership skills as their reason why they want him as president.

On the other hand, the survey also showed that 35% of the respondents will not vote for Duterte saying they “want him more as Mayor of Davao.” 16% of the respondents also “took his words that he won’t run while 13% believed that Duterte “is too old”.

Duterte also topped a previous local survey conducted by the Social Research, Training and Development Office of the Ateneo de Davao University. In the result released Friday, 75.27% of the 630 respondents want Duterte to run for President.

Researcher Mildred Estanda assured the credibility of the survey.

“We have adapted a random sampling with a sampling error of positive negative four and a 95 % level of significance. Even though we have not captured a larger sample size, the data is still accurate,” Estanda said.

Duterte also topped the presidential survey conducted by the ABS-CBN’s ANC program, Talkback. Duterte gained 52 votes, followed by Santiago with 44 and Roxas, 28.
